GAIN HONOUR AND AVOID DISGRACE

Allah told Nabi ﷺ:

I shall give control to this group (of Haqq) over all those who do not adopt my Dīn, by whom I shall extract revenge on them. I shall grant them dominance so long as they abide by it, the true Dīn. No one turns away from it except he is disgraced, and no one adheres to it except he gains honour.”

(Bidāyah wa Nihāyah)

HOME IS THE PRIMARY JILBAAB

The wife of Abdullah bin Mas’ood (radhiyallahu anhu) said:

Clothe me (i.e. get me) a Jilbaab!”

Abdullah (radhiyallahu anhu) replied:

(No!) I fear that you will leave the Jilbaab of Allah with which He covers you (meaning confining oneself to the house)”

Safeguarding One’s Eemaan & Contentment with One’s Rizq

Hadhrat Ibn Mas’ud (radhiyallahu anhu) states that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

Soon will there dawn an age on people in which no one’s Imaan will be safe, except he who takes his Deen and flees from city to city, mountain to mountain and from cave to cave like a fox attempting to escape the clutches of a hunter.”

The Sahaabah asked:

O Rasulullah! When will such a time dawn?”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

When sin will be committed in the pursuit of rizq and when abstention from nikah will be lawful.”

The Sahaabah enquired:

We have been commanded with nikah. How will abstention therefrom be lawful in that age?”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

In that age parents will be the cause of a man’s destruction. If a man has no parents, his wife will be the cause of his destruction. If he has no wife, destruction will overtake him from the side of his close relatives.”

The Sahaabah asked:

O Rasulullah! How will they destroy a man?”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

His relatives will criticize him because of his little earnings. As a result of their pressure he will transgress the limits in pursuit of opulence and become audacious in the commission of haraam. In the pursuit (of more wealth) he will destroy himself and his Deen.”

(an extract from the Kitaab “Irshaadul Mulook” translated by Majlisul-‘Ulamaa of South Africa)

When you see a scholar mingle with the Sultan a lot, then know that he is a thief.”

Al-Munāwī said:

BEWARE OF THE MUNAAFIQ WHO ARGUES USING THE QUR’AN AND HADITH

Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah ﷺ said:

A time will come upon my Ummah in which Qaaris (Qur’an reciters for dollars) will become abundant, the Fuqaha (true scholars) will become scarce, knowledge will be taken away, and Harj will become rife.”

They asked:

What is Harj, O Rasulullah ﷺ?”

He ﷺ replied:

Killing amongst yourselves. Then a time will come after that in which a man will recite the Qur’an and it will not go past his throat. Then there will come a time after that in which a Munaafiq, Kaafir, Mushrik will argue with the Mu’min with the (very) same thing he says (ie. the Qur’an and the Sunnah).”

WHEN ALLAH’S HELP IS WITH YOU

Ubaidullah ibn Abi Ja’far (rahmatullahi alayh) narrates:

We raided Constantinople, but our boat broke and a wave threw us onto a (stray) piece of wood in the sea. We were five or six (men). Allah caused a leaf to grow for each one of us so that we could suck on it and which would satiate (our hunger) and quench (our thirst). Then in the evening, Allah would cause another leaf to grow in its place for us. (This happened continously) until a boat passed us by and picked us up.”

JOURNEYING FOR KNOWLEDGE AND LOVE FOR JUMUAH

Abdullah (the son of Ahmad ibn Hanbal) narrates:

My father went all the way to Tartoos (approx. 600 miles away) walking, and he left for Yemen walking (1000+ miles), and he went for Hajj five times, three of which by walking. No one can say that they saw my father in these (distant) lands for a day (i.e. Friday) except that he went for Jumuah (even though Jumuah is not mandatory for even a traveller of only 48 miles.)”

DUA FOR PROTECTION FROM A DOMESTIC HAIR-WHITENER

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

“O Allah! I seek refuge in you from an evil neighbour, a wife who causes my hair to go white before old age, a child who becomes a master over me, wealth that becomes a (source of) punishment for me, and a scheming friend whose eye watches over me and whose heart keeps a tab over me such that if he sees (anything) good (in me), he covers it up, and if he sees (anything) bad, he publicizes it.”

(Authentic Hadith recorded by Tabaraani in his Dua)

In this age of Masjids fitted with the latest air conditioners, water dispensers, sofa-like chairs and other gadgets, it is worth noting the special facility installed during the era of the Sahabah (radhiyallahu anhum):

‘Arak bin Malik narrates:

“I came across the people in the month of Ramadhan, with ropes suspended (from the ceiling) for them, which they would grab hold of due to the length of the standing.”

(Musannaf Abi Shaybah)

Other narrations mention people taking staffs with them to lean on.

  1. In other Ahaadeeth Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم gives glad tidings to a person who has white hair. So why would someone not want white hair. And Allah is why to punish the one with white hair.

The above Hadeeth means that one makes Dua for saviour from a difficult wife.

    • Jazakallahu Khair

It is very obvious from the Dua itself that the protection being sought is from a difficult wife (ie. one who causes one’s hair to go white before old age).

In any case I have changed the heading to avoid any misunderstanding.

    • In my humble opinion Ummah today needs more of tonic for zuhd, akhlaq, maashrat etc.
Many thanks for starting this series. May Allah bind our hearts into one brotherhood and fraternity, something very urgently required.
      Jazakallah khair
May Allah grant you very healthy life in the service of Islam. Aameen summa ameen

THE ANSWER TO EVERY WOMAN’S COMPLAINT

Asmaa’ bintu Yazeed Al-Ansaariyyah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), a Sahaabiyyah from the Banu ‘Abdil Ash-hal clan, once approached Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) while he was seated among the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) and addressed him in the following words:
“May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! I have come to you as a representative of all women. May my life be sacrificed for you! Every single woman, in the east and west, whether she has heard that I will come to you or not, will have exactly the same question as myself. Verily Allah Ta‘ala has sent you with the truth to men and women. We brought imaan in you and in Allah Ta‘ala who deputed you.
We, the women, live with restrictions and limitations. We don’t leave the confines of our homes. We allow you to fulfill your needs with us, and we bear your children. You, the men, have been favoured by your being able to attend the jumu‘ah salaah and other salaahs in congregation. You are able to visit the sick and be present at funerals. You perform hajj after hajj and even more virtuous than that is your fighting in the path of Allah Ta‘ala. When any of you men leave your home to perform hajj or ‘umrah or to guard the borders of the Islamic territories, it is none other than us women who protect your wealth for you. We sew your clothes for you. We raise and care for your children. Don’t we have a share in your reward O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)?”
On hearing the complaint of this woman, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) turned his face towards the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) and asked, “Have you ever heard a woman ask a question regarding her deen more excellent than the question of this woman?” The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) replied, “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! We never imagined that a woman could be inspired to ask a question of this nature!”
Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) turned back to her and said, “Return, O woman, and inform all the women you represent that for you to display excellent conduct with your husband, seek to keep him happy and try your utmost to comply with his ways will equal all the deeds you mentioned.”
Asmaa’ (radhiyallahu ‘anha) was so delighted to hear this, that as she walked away she continued to exclaim “Allahu Akbar!” and “La ilaaha illallah!”.
    (Shu‘abul Imaan #8369)
