Q. Many people here are wearing a cloak with a hood. They (i.e. imams) perform Salaat with it and it has become very popular trend among muslims. One student of the deen from North Africa said that it has been traditionally worn to help them concentrate when they are memorizing. He himself wore it and says there is nothing wrong with it? When they want to concentrate, they put on the hood so they are not distracted by what is going on around them. One brother said that they look like the devils/shaitaan and are frightened by them. One brother said that they look like Christian monks. I have sent you a picture. Is this sunnah? Will this effect your salaat? Is it permissible to wear this?
