President Erdogan has won the elections in Turkey. Darul Uloom Zakariyya of Johannesburg has published a laudatory letter congratulating Erdogan and highly praising him. Is it proper for Ulama to congratulate secular Leaders and Politicians for achieving victory in a Kuffar Political System? Please enlighten and guide us with a detailed explanation in the light of the Shariah.
Undoubtedly Erdogan and his party are the best favours for the Turkish Muslims since the era of the abolition of the Khilafate by the Kuffaar about a century ago.
In the wake of the abolition of the Khilafate, Islam was expunged by the atheist Dajjaal Ataturk. Thus, the vast majority of Turks, especially the new generations, were reared as atheist Kuffaar. Imaan was extinguished.
Erdogan is Allah’s blessing for the Turkish Muslims who have Islamic inclinations and are desirous of regaining their Islamic identity. He has opened the way for Islam, the Madaaris and Musaajid. It now remains for Muslims in Turkey to take maximum advantage of the breathing space Allah Ta’ala has bestowed to them. If they fail, this opening will close with disastrous consequences.
However, despite the blessing Erdogan is, it is unbefitting for Ulama to adopt measures which smack of bootlicking secular personnel, especially Politicians and rulers. Sending congratulations and lauding praise on a faasiq are not permissible. Making dua for his guidance is sufficient.
The truckling statement of the Darul Uloom is bootlicking which is extremely repugnant for Ulama. The focus should be on Allah Azza Wa jal. He is in control of the Universe, and whatever happens is by His command:
“Not a leaf drops (from a tree), but He is aware. There is not a seed in the darkness of the earth nor anything moist or dry, but it is recorded in a clear Book” (Qur’aan)[By Hazrat Maulana Ahmad Sadeq Desai]
