Although Bangladesh is a 96% majority Muslim country, or is supposed to be so, the shaitaani process of hinduization has been incrementally pursued by the kuffaar governments since the era of Bangladesh’s break from Pakistan. Although there is nothing Islamic about Pakistan and the merger into a single state of West and East Pakistan had not benefited either wing of the new Pakistani state from the Islamic perspective, nevertheless, the shaitaani process of hinduization was not pursued.

From Bangladesh comes the following lament:

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu Maulana Sahib, This question has been in the back of my mind for the past week about: How to refute secularism when it clashes with the rulings of Islam? A classic case being an appeal to Muslims for avoiding participating in the “Bengali New Year procession” also known as “Pahela baisakh”. This appeal was issued by a non-political Islamic organization known as “Hefazat-eIslam” from Bangladesh. Some secularists have venomously replied to the fatwa. I present the details below:

Before putting up the matter, I would like to give a brief introduction of Hefazat-e-Islam: Hefazat-e-Islam (which means Defenders or Protectors of Islam), is a non-political Islamic movement based strictly upon Qur’an and Sunnah. The movement is an offshoot of Qawmi Madrasah Bangladesh. The movement was founded by the Ameer of Qawmi Madrasah Bangladesh, Shaykhul Hadeeth Hadhrat Allamah Mufti Ahmad Shafi on the basis of defending Islam, Muslims and Bangladesh from regional and foreign attacks.

Shaykhul-Hadeeth Hadhrat Allamah Mufti Ahmad Shafi is a direct student and Khalifah of Shaykhul-Islam Sayyid Husain Ahmad Madani (rahmatullah alayh). Besides, the other main objectives of Hefazat-e-Islam, is to clear misconceptions on different aspects of Islam. The movement holds yearly gatherings throughout Bangladesh to propagate knowledge of Islam. (Source: Ulama of Bangladesh web-page)

The following appeal from a member of Hefazat-e-Islam appeared in the Bangladeshi news website Dhaka Tribune on April 14 a day before “Bengali New Year”:

“Hefazat: Mongol Shobhajatra is haraam Leaders of the Islamic group Hefazat-e-Islam have said the Mongol Shobhajatra procession observed on the morning of Pohela Boishakh is ‘haraam,’ or forbidden in Islam. Hefazat’s Dhaka unit Vice President Junaid Al Habib said: “Mongol Shobhajatra is not Muslim culture. If the government wants to push this on Muslims, the Qawmi Madrasas will be forced to take to the streets.”

He was speaking at a protest in front of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday. Hefazat organized the protest to condemn the killing of civilians in Afghanistan by NATO forces.

On Thursday, Hefazat Secretary -General Junaid Babunagari issued a statement saying:

“In the name of celebrating the Bangla new year, observing a procession with animal replicas is against the faith and practices of Muslims. Adult men and women wear indecent clothing with paint on their faces and dance together to the rhythm of drums while carrying giant dolls and animal masks. This Hindu ritual is being forced upon Muslims by the state. This is absolutely forbidden in the eyes of Islam,” he said in the statement.” (End of the article)

Now, in reply to this appeal from the member of Hefazat-e -Islam, the Dhaka Tribune Editor (name is not mentioned by them) had some criticism for the Ulama. This reply was in refutation and condemnation of the appeal made by the Ulama of Hefazat-e-Islam. Their reply:

“Respecting diversity, and not division: Lest we forget, Bangladesh is a secular nation, built on secular principles set forth by the Father of the Nation Bangabhandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. One shining example of this are the Pohela Boishakh celebrations, which highlight the multiethnic and diverse culture of our country. Nowhere is this secular spirit more evident than in the iconic Mongol Shobhajatra, which — though relatively recent in its origin — truly epitomizes the unity that exists within the Bangladeshi people, as the procession boasts people from a wide variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds.

But it seems that Hefazat-eIslam has forgotten our nation’s history, or wishes to rewrite it. Bangladesh has always prided itself on its diversity and inclusion, and for Hefazat to tarnish this legacy by proclaiming that the Mongol Shobhajatra is “haram” and “not Muslim culture” is utterly unacceptable. Even more dangerous and divisive is their tendentious description of the event as “adult men and women wearing indecent clothing” and “dancing together” and their dubbing it a “Hindu ritual forced upon Muslims by the state.”

In the first place: Who has given Hefazat the authority to dictate what is and what is not Muslim culture? How dare they try to impose their narrow, parochial interpretation of Islam on the rest of us? Second, and more important, their statements are bigoted and objectionable hate speech. Statements such as theirs have no place in a nation such as ours, statements which serve not only to create religious disharmony among the peace-loving citizens of Bangladesh, but go so far as to threaten violence. When threats, incitement to violence, and hate directed at a religious community are a crime — and these are all crimes under the penal code — statements such as these cannot be permitted to stand. Those who sow the seeds of discord through this kind of intolerant hatemongering must be brought to book. Bangladesh can have zero tolerance for such ugliness.

Pohela Boishakh and even the Mongol Shobhajatra are emblematic of Bangladesh’s rich culture and heritage and to spew such vitriol in their direction cannot be permitted. Hefazat does not have to like either. But it cannot impose its views on the rest of us, and, most importantly, it cannot be allowed to threaten violence in order to get its way.” (End of the rubbish disgorged by the Dhaka Tribune Editorial)

Maulana Sahib please comment on this issue and refute such “secularists” who insult the Ulama.

After the violent break-up of Pakistan, orchestrated by India, Bengal (then East Pakistan) seceded from the federation and took the path of Hinduism albeit subtly and cunningly. The Awami League which has for the greater part of the post-Pakistan era governed the country is a dedicated anti-Islam, pro-Hindu shaitaani entity determined to abolish Islam and convert Bangladesh into a Hindu state under the guise of secularism. The kufr government is merely the reflection of the vast majority of Bangladeshis.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

Your deeds are your rulers.”

Just as today in Najdi Saudi Arabia the current kuffaar regime reflects the kufr of the vast majority of Saudis, so too does the Hindu government in Bangladesh represent the Hindu aspirations of the majority of Bengalis who are masquerading as Muslims.

The Brother in his letter concedes that the vast majority of Bangladeshis participates in the haraam celebrations of kufr and shirk. These are the very people who have installed the Hindu or pro-Hindu government which is in the process of dismantling and extinguishing Islam in Bangladesh. This evil regime has the support of the vast majority of Bangladeshis.

Have you ever wondered why Bangladesh is plagued by so many natural disasters – annual floods and hurricanes? This is Allah’s Athaab for the munaafiqeen – the majority of Bangladeshis. The sole cause for natural disasters is gross and flagrant rebellion against Allah Azza Wa Jal. The Qur’aan and Ahaadith confirm this beyond all vestiges of doubt.

The real problem is not the evil kuffaar government. The root problem is the people of Bangladesh. At heart the vast majority is kuffaar, hence they lovingly accept all the kufr and shirk practices of the Hindus justifying these with the putrid, self-deceiving ‘traditional and cultural’ argument which is bereft of Islamic validity.

Tashabbuh bil kuffaar (emulating the kuffaar) is haraam in all spheres of Muslim life. In Bangladesh this Tashabbuh has been adopted in the vilest manner.

Like the munaafiq-kaafir, Kemal Attaturk who had abolished even the Qur’aanic script (Arabic) in Turkey, so too has the kaafir Bangladeshi regime abolished the Islamic script of Urdu which in reality is also Arabic, and then substituted it with the script of the Hindu mushrikeen. Hindu religious customs are emulated and adopted with pleasure and believed to be permissible and necessary.
Tens of millions of Bangladeshis are without Imaan although they sport lengthy Muslim names.

When in Bangladesh, one gains the impression that one is in a Hindu land. Only when the Athaan is proclaimed from the numerous Musaajid is one reminded of Islam. But in comparison to the irreligiosity reigning in the country, the Islamic community is of little significance and of no importance.

As long as there is no metamorphosis in the masses – a transformation from kufr to Imaan – the position will deteriorate further into the abyss of kufr. The basic cause for all the kufr and shirk in which the population is submerged, is jahaalat. They are almost totally ignorant of Islam.

It is on this score that the Ulama have failed. They had abandoned the masses to the devil and his legions, hence the existence of the current situation in which KUFR reigns the country. This is the primary cause of the spread of jahaalat and kufr in all Muslim countries.

The Ulama Fraternity is rotten to the core. They are mercenaries manipulating the Deen for worldly pursuits and objectives. The Deen and the Aakhirat just do not feature in their hearts.

The solution is not just to establish Darul Ulooms. The Bangladeshi Ulama are preoccupied with the endeavour to establish small empires for themselves. The Ulama establish Darul Ulooms and each one is concerned with only his institution without a care for the next one. As long as his institution flourishes, he cannot be concerned with other Deeni institutions and even less with the masses who are incrementally slipping in the abyss of kufr. The numerous Darul Ulooms in Bangladesh are in reality a drop in the ocean relative to the population.

Furthermore, it is not possible nor feasible for the entire populace to become molvis. Secular education minus its kufr paraphernalia which ruins the Imaan of the millions, is necessary for operating a country.

In fact, Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh) had commented that today’s molvis are incapable of governing a country. This comment of Hadhrat Thanvi is a simple fact which even simple brains can readily absorb.

Secular education stripped of the western fisq, fujoor and kufr attributes and evil environment, is imperative. In this sphere of life the Ulama have miserably failed, hence the kuffaar recognizing this failure swiftly filled the vacuum. Along with their style of secular education came their kufr indoctrination. They fitted the brains of all their Muslim students with kufr strait-jackets. Almost all Muslims who acquired secular education in the kufr environment of the west have become agents of Iblees. Thus, every Muslim country is in the grips of kuffaar regimes. This has been the greatest success of the colonial powers.

There is still hope, if the Ulama can only open their eyes, brains and hearts to understand what has happened and what is happening in Bangladesh and elsewhere. They need to put their heads together, sit with other Ulama who have the Ummah of the world at heart and formulate strategies in consonance with the Sunnah to remedy the satanic situation in which Muslim nations are trapped and sliding more and more into the pit of kufr and vice.

Sitting together does not imply western style conferences which specialize in merrymaking, eating, waste, nonsensical delivery of papers, and passing of resolutions devoid of Islamic substance, sincerity and life. These stupid western methods are not meant for the Muslimeen.


The Bangladeshi Brother, posed the following questions regarding the kufr conflagrations devouring Bangladesh:

Q. The majority of the ignorant Muslims of Bangladesh celebrate this “Bengali New Year” along with the Hindus. When confronted, they respond saying that this is “just a cultural and traditional event”. What does Islam say about a Muslim adopting so-called “cultural and traditional customs”?

A. Whilst the answer is quite simple and while genuine Muslims know and accept that this argument of the juhala masses is absolutely baatil, this awareness by the few serves no beneficial purpose for the ignorant masses whose very Imaan has been either extinguished or is on the verge of extinction.

The editor of the Dhaka Tribune is an absolute jaahil, more jaahil than the ignoramus in the street. That is why he has written so much kufr drivel to justify the Hindu kufr which Bangladeshis have accepted with open arms and wholeheartedly.

This condition of kufr which is a great plague in Bangladesh cannot be remedied by taking to the streets as suggested by Hefazat-e-Islam. On the contrary, taking to the streets will be counter-productive. Street protests and demonstrations are the methods of the kuffaar. While there may be some benefit in these methods for the kuffaar, there is only destruction for Muslims in the adoption of kuffaar methodology to solve problems.

Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (Rahmatullah alayh) has said that in Islam we know of only two ways: Jihad or Sabr. The in-between methods of the kuffaar are foreign to us. We do not understand them nor accept them as valid for Muslims.

Today the condition of Muslims is worse than the condition of the Muslims on the occasion of Hudaibiyyah. The Ulama need to formulate strategies in the background silhouette of Hudaibiyyah. Only in this is our success.

Street protests western kuffaar style will bring greater repression and brutality from the Hindu government. The current ‘freedom’ which the Madaaris and other Deeni institutions have in Bangladesh will also be severely curtailed and even proscribed. It is therefore best to work within the confines of this ‘freedom’ with Sabr and with the focus on Allah Azza Wa Jal.

Q . Some Bangladeshi “Muslim” Women wear bindis (a round dot on their forehead) just like Hindus, the excuse again given by them is “cultural and traditional custom without having any belief or purpose like that of Hindus” How should such clash of so-called “traditional customs” and Tashabbuh bil Kuffar factors be explained to them and be refuted?

A. Having the Hindu bindi (kufr dot) on the forehead in emulation of the Hindu mushrikeen is obviously kufr. It is just like wearing a crucifix around the neck without believing in the Christian concept of the “crucifixion of Christ”. Regardless of belief, the very adoption of a kaafir religious practice/custom is kufr which expels the Muslim from the fold of Islam. But due to the abject jahaalat of the people who were reared like Hindus by their pro-Hindu parents who were all part of the Hinduization of Bangladesh, they will not understand any Islamic logic.

The only slender hope is in mass publication of educational articles in the Bangladeshi language, and for the Ulama to constantly deliver educational bayaans in the Musaajid and elsewhere without adopting a methodology which would antagonize the shaitaani Hindu regime strangling Bangladesh today.

There are other grassroots methods too which the Bangladeshi Ulama should discuss and formulate in consultation with other Ulama of Taqwa and of philanthropic disposition.

Q. Third question which is of a major concern: Whenever the Ulama-e-Haqq raise their voice appealing to Muslims to avoid emulating the customs of other religions, the secularists label their appeals as “Hate-Speech”, “narrow, parochial interpretation of Islam”. Is the deeming of hindu practices (so-called “traditional practices”) as haraam for Muslims “threats, incitement to violence, and hate directed at a religious community” as the secularist editor of the Dhaka Tribune has averred? How should the Ulama reply to such false slanders to the awaam? Please comment on these issues. Jazakallahu Khayr.

A. As mentioned in the previous answer, the Ulama in Bangladesh should not adopt a confrontational stance. The reaction of the western-educated juhala such as the editor of the newspaper being kaafir at heart, will obviously label every teaching of Islam which refutes kufr and shirk to be ‘hate speech’ and ‘incitement’ . Everything of Islam is ‘hate speech and incitement’ for these human devils.

Regarding them, the Qur’aan Majeed states:

Verily hatred has gushed forth from their mouths (for you, O Believers!). But what their breasts conceal is worse”.

The robust stance adopted by Hefazat-e-Islam at the public rally outside Baitul Mukarram Musjid was deliberately and wrongly interpreted by the stupid editor as being ‘incitement and hate speech’. Public demonstrations by practising Muslims, especially in an anti-Islam state such as Bangladesh will be deliberately and conveniently proclaimed to be ‘hate speech’ in order to further suppress the Deen and the people of the Deen.

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour. On the battlefield of Jihad, the need to display valour is imperative. But in the environment in which ordinary Muslims find themselves under the yoke of oppressors who cherish inveterate hatred for Islam and orthodox Muslims, there is a need to adopt greater intelligence and to keep in mind the long term benefits of Sabr.

Ponder over the humiliating conditions of the Treaty of Hudaibiyyah accepted by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), and which Allah Ta’ala describes in the Qur’aan Majeed as “A manifest victory”. The Ulama should consider long term planning for the Imaani interests of the masses whose attachment with Islam dangles on a flimsy thread, and in innumerable cases involving tens of millions of Bangladeshis, Imaan has already been extinguished.

These kuffaar secularists masquerading as ‘Muslims’ deem every teaching of Islam publicly stated by the Ulama to be an imposition on the population.

The implication is quite clear. Islam must be banned. Nothing of Islam should be publicly aired. Stating that idolatry is haraam; zina is haraam; same sex marriages are haraam; homosexuality is haraam; prostitution is haraam; liquor is haraam; adopting the practices of the mushrikeen is haraam, etc., etc. – all of these tenets of Islam if stated in public are regarded by the pro-Hindu so-called secularists as impositions on the population.

But the injustices and oppression, the denial of freedom of religion, that is freedom for the Islamic Deen, and the imposition by the kuffaar government of corrupt, haraam and kuffaar concepts on Muslims are not regarded as unjust impositions on the genuine Muslim population. Only Islamic teaching is assailed and branded as imposition on the people.

Yet, the Ulama are not imposing on anyone. They are merely stating what Allah Ta’ala and His Rasool (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) had proclaimed. The Ulama in Bangladesh and anywhere else do not possess the coercive power to impose the Deen on the population. They only state the Message of Islam as commanded by Allah Ta’ala. In this regard the Qur’aan states: “Upon us is only to deliver the Clear Message.”

Now whether the people accept or reject this Message, is not within the power of the Ulama.

The jaahil editor of the stupid paper has spoken stupidly and irrationally. In which way are the Ulama imposing on the population? On the contrary, the so-called ‘secularists’ are imposing their brand of atheism on the people, especially on those who are true Muslims. His claim is both slanderous and devoid of even secular sense.

Furthermore, these anti-Islam, pro-Hindu agents of Iblees are not secularists in the literal sense. While they pretend to be secularists, they are Hindus deep down in their hearts, hence their strong pro-Hindu bias displayed for Muslims who endeavour to follow the Shariat.

Their claim that Bangladesh is a ‘secular’ state is a monstrous canard. Bangladesh is a Hindu state, hence this evil regime leaves no stone unturned in its pernicious plot to extinguish Islam.

But, ultimately it will suffer a miserable failure and defeat, Insha-Allah.
In addition to sombre acquittal and intelligent planning, the Ulama and the people of the Deen should turn to Allah Ta’ala with obedience and Dua. Supplicate to Allah Ta’ala to create a gap, a breathing space for Islam to begin flourishing in Bangladesh. Nothing is impossible for Allah Azza Wa Jal.

Allah Ta’ala had created such a breathing space for the Turkish Muslims in the form of Erdogan after many decades of brutal kufr imposition. Although Erdogan is not the perfect one, nevertheless he is the best blessing which Allah Ta’ala has granted the Turkish people in the prevailing scenario. He has opened the way for the people of the Deen. The same can happen overnight in Bangladesh. They should make fervent dua constantly and struggle along the Path of the Sunnah. The Qur’aan Majeed says in this regard:

Those who strive in Our path, We shall most certainly guide them along Our paths.”
